ALWAYS smiling at ZARA..

Australia is famous for gold. The gold rush, the national colours [green and] gold, golden sand and I’m pretty sure we’ve gathered quite a few gold Olympic medals in our day. However, it is most unfortunate that we are without the goldmine that is Zara.

Recently, I was overseas – and I went absolutely crazy in Zara. My mum and I were in the women’s section for hours before we even realised that there are other levels. I bought some beautiful pieces, including a coat with a large collar. However, it is summer here in Australia – so whilst I’ll be getting a golden tan – I will not be spending my summer shopping in Zara, or wearing my lovely coat.

Yet I live in hope that Zara will make her way here soon. As shops like Zara make the world go round.

Some Zara pieces that are worth their weight in gold;

Smiling at.. LA VIE EN ROSE!

From the heartfelt words of Edith Piaf, to the passionate strength of Grace Jones, to the gentle serenading of Humphrey Bogart by Audrey Hepburn – this song has been smiled at through and through.

Why are my pearly whites currently sparkling at this song?

Possibly because it is elusively foreign and chic. Elegant, yet passionate - flirty, yet holding that element of reserve.

My idea of the 3 F’s; Fashion, France and Facebook – are definitely seen through rose coloured glasses.

La vie en rose <3

Smiling at.. LEGENDARY FASHIONISTAS!

Recently I began looking closely at Elsa Schiaparelli. Not only did she design some groundbreaking pieces, but she teamed up with Salvador Dali - the world's quirkiest, yet awesome, artist!

I am in love with her 12 commandments for women. Very profound.

1. Since most women do not know themselves they should try to do so.

2. A woman who buys an expensive dress and changes it, often with disastrous result, is extravagant and foolish.

3. Most women (and men) are color-blind. They should ask for suggestions.

4. Remember-twenty percent of women have inferiority complexes. Seventy percent have illusions.

5. Ninety percent are afraid of being conspicuous, and of what people will say. So they buy a gray suit. They should dare to be different.

6. Women should listen and ask for competent criticism and advice.

7. They should choose their clothes alone or in the company of a man.

8. They should never shop with another woman, who sometimes consciously or unconsciously, is apt to be jealous.

9. She should buy little and only of the best or cheapest.

10. Never fit a dress to the body, but train the body to fit the dress.

11. A woman should buy mostly in one place where she is known and respected, and not rush around trying every new fad.

12. And she should pay her bills.

The aforementioned information and picture, are courtesy of the PHILADELPHIA MUESEUM OF ART. If only I lived overseas to visit the mueseum - then I would definitely smiling!

Smiling at.. PROFOUND ADVICE!

Alright, so it has been a while, and you’re probably thinking that the above heading means that I’ve neglected my fashion passion, this is definitely not the case.

Profound advice is fashion. Upon hearing (and acting upon) the said advice, one exerts a certain degree of confidence, they hold themselves elegantly, and they inevitably smile – which is the biggest fashion statement.

So listen to advice, and smile :)

ALWAYS Smiling at.. SMILING and REMEMBERING THE TIME OF MICHAEL JACKSON!

As aforementioned, I love Michael Jackson, and was devastated when hearing news of his death.

Today was his memorial, and at discovery of Michael Jackson’s favourite song being “Smile” by Charlie Chaplin, I knew I had to rush and compose a blog entry.

So, here are the lyrics to Michael Jackson’s favourite song, with an underlying message which this blog targets.

Smile
tho'
your heart is aching,
Smile
Even though it's breaking,
When there are clouds in the sky- You'll get by,
If you
Smile through your fear and sorrow,
Smile and maybe tomorrow
You'll see the sun come shining through- For you.
Light up your face with gladness,
Hide ev'ry trace of sadness,
Altho' a tear may be ever so near,
That's the time you must keep on trying,
Smile- What's the use of crying,
You'll find that life is still worthwhile,
If you just smile.

Rest in Peace, Michael Jackson - King of Pop.

Smiling at.. GUCCI RESORT 2010 MOSAIC DRESS!

It's Summer, and you are heading down to a beachside cafe for lunch with the girls. You don't intend on swimming, yet you want to look effortlessly, and ridiculously, hot. You slip on a dress with a nice pair of flats, and possibly a wide brim hat. A little mascara and lipgloss is all the makeup that is required, and.. you SMILE.

Smile at the people that pass by, smile at the cute waiters, you even smile at the slice of lemon floating in your water!

In this dress, I wouldn’t stop smiling.

Lusting over this Gucci Mosaic dress.

Smiling at.. GIORGIO ARMANI RESORT 2010

The pieces from the Giorgio Armani Resort 2010 collection which made me smile.

Smiling at.. WHYSL T-SHIRT!

When my friend posted this t-shirt on my FB, my eyes widened in excitement. Yes, I had a big smile on my face, and the vision of a t-shirt that I would literally live in if I had it in my possession. I would buy it in every colour, and I don’t think you’d ever see me in anything else.

Ohhh how much this makes me smile :)

Smiling at.. COCO AVANT CHANEL and HATS!

I watched Coco Avant Chanel today, and it was a lovely movie. I love movies with subtitles, and I love fashion, so when two loves are combined, generally, great, smile worthy, things result!

There was an array of hats in the film (as this is was what Coco Chanel originally made,) and coincidently, the protagonist of the book I am currently reading also tends to wear a hat..
Which is why I have dedicated this post to hats!

Smiling at.. FERNANDO TORRES' NIKE IGNITE ADVERTISEMENT!

I know this isn't exactly fashion, but I love love love Fernando Torres. He is a talented footballer, which means, automatically, that there is some sex appeal attached to him, and, from what I have seen, he dresses nicely as well!

I rate this advertisement very highly!

ALWAYS smiling at.. REMEMBERING THE TIME OF MICHAEL JACKSON!

May the best artist the world has ever seen rest in peace.

May we rejoice in the memory of Michael Jackson, the lover (not the fighter) and give him the respect he deserves.

He will always be able to thrill us more than any ghoul could ever dare try!

At this sad time, I believe it is important that the messages present within his songs are heard. So hopefully we can heal the world, by looking at the man in the mirror and loving our brothers and sisters no matter if they are black or white!

As a personal Salute to the King, Michael Jackson, I will continue to wear my history t-shirt and I will continue to play your songs incessantly.

Unfortunately, without a great smile, I’d like to exhibit a clothing item of Michael Jackson’s that makes me smile.

The awesome leather jacket from Beat it.

ALWAYS smiling at.. THE SEX AND THE CITY WARDROBE!

I am extremely obsessed with Sex and the City. The wardrobe for both the seasons and the movie were smile provoking. My favourite season in terms of fashion is definitely Season 6. Otherwise, just like Carrie, who doesn't play favourites with her shoes, I don't play favourites with my seasons and episodes!

An array of my favourite Carrie ensembles.

Samantha makes statements in true style.

I love Miranda and Charlotte's coats!

A thousand layers!

The Oscar De La Renta Spring 2004 dress is timeless!

Smiling at.. TOPSHOP!

If I lived in the UK, I believe I would literally inhabit one of the TOPSHOP stores!

Without fail, everytime I visit the website I find, that there is always more than one smile worthy item.

Here are SOME of the items which are currently arousing my smile..

Smiling at.. ROBERTO CAVALLI RESORT 2010 DRESS!

If I had this Roberto Cavalli (Resort 2010) dress, not only would I be eternally happy, but I would twirl around so much, that cadbury would have to rename their chocolate!

ALWAYS smiling at.. ELIE SAAB SPRING/SUMMER 08 DRESS!

The minute I saw this Elie Saab dress I was in love, and of course, I smiled.

It was the inspiration for my year 12 formal dress last year, which I had made. It is a little different.. but it still made me smile.

Thanks Elie Saab and my beautiful dressmaker, Betty. Smiles all round :)

Smiling at.. LAUNCHING!

I sat here, staring at the screen for a while, contemplating the cocktail of words I would mix to officially launch this blog. However, I had no success in my endeavor to iniate my haven of fashion scrutiny to the world.

So, in lieu of an inspiring and poetic introduction, I have included an array of inspiring smiles, as, that is essentially the strongest fashion statement, and overtone of this blog.

I believe the smile is timeless, and that everybody should invest in one..
